This camp is located in Kenya’s famous Samburu National Reserve is named after Erik Ole Larsen, a legendary Dane credited with defining the luxury safari under canvas. All tents are discreetly sited along the west bank of the Uaso Nyiro River with the result that the tents are bathed with light at sunrise. Each tent stands on a plinth of natural stone and all have en suite private bathrooms stocked with a range of Molton Brown toiletries, flushing toilets, constant hot water and 24 hour electricity (240 volts). Each tent features 1 king or 2 twin beds designed in chic safari style.
The Lodge includes 64 Standard rooms and 3 Suites, a Main Restaurant, Bar and al fresco or private dining for the Suites. The swimming pool adjoins a wellness tent. Nairobi
Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya, boasting over 3 million inhabitants. It was founded as a colonial city at the turn of the twentieth century with the ongoing construction of the Uganda Railway—taking its name from a variant of the Maa (Masai) place-name for it which means cold watering place. As a colonial city, its spatial composition reflected the racial prejudices of the British colonial project from its inception, and that segregation, together with some of colonial Nairobi’s earliest neighborhoods (called “estates”), can still be seen today.
Ol Pejeta Game Reserve
Home to “The Big Five” (lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo) plus an exciting catalog of; giraffe, zebra, eland, oryx, waterbuck, Grant’s gazelle, Thompson’s gazelle, cheetah, silver-backed jackal, hartebeest and baboon. The reserve also boasts several hundred bird species. The reserve has the highest ratio of game to area of any park or reserve in Kenya. Sweetwater’s Chimpanzee Sanctuary was established in cooperation with the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Jane Goodall Institute for Conservation Projects for Chimpanzees throughout the World, the 1 km sq sanctuary is a non-profit-making venture and the only sanctuary of its kind in Kenya. A gentle and charming diversion for children and adults alike, it offers visitors the unique opportunity of taking a boat ride on the Ewaso Nyiro River, which flows through the center of the sanctuary where 26 orphaned chimps enjoy the peace and harmony of their natural environment.
Samburu Game Reserves
Samburu Reserve features rocky ramparts, thorn scrub, distant hills and a mountain called Lololokwi. Located in the northern frontier district, this reserves hosts most unique species of wildlife endemic only to this region which include, the Beisa Oryx, the Somali Ostrich, Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe, Greater Kudu and the Grevy Zebra just to mention a few. Out of the Big Five, Rhinos are not found here.
Nakuru
Thousands of flamingo fringe the shores of this soda lake. An overview of the lake from the Baboon cliff gives a spectacular view of the lake and the flamingos. More than just flamingos this is a major National Park and an important sanctuary for Rhino – both Black and White Rhino. Buffalos, lions, can be spotted among the Big Five except for the elephants. Also, huge herds of waterbuck, zebra, the endangered Rothschild Giraffe can be seen among a vast variety of birds. African wild cats, civet cats, silver-backed jackals and bat-eared foxes are present as well. There are forests, cliffs, waterfalls and more to be found here.
Masai Mara
The Masai Mara Game Reserve is widely considered to be Africa’s greatest wildlife reserve. The Mara comprises of 200 sq miles of open plains, woodlands and riverine forest. Contiguous with the plains of the Serengeti, the Mara is home to a breath taking array of life. The vast grassland plains are scattered with herds of Zebra, Giraffe, Gazelle, and Topi. The Acacia forests abound with Bird life and Monkeys. Elephants and Buffalo wallow in the wide Musiara Swamp. The Mara and Talek rivers are brimming with Hippos and Crocodiles.
